Denmark

6 - 8 November 2018

We managed to get packed up between showers but the canvas was wet, which makes the job that much harder. Fortunately we haven't had to do a pack up in the wet too many times on this trip so we got on with the job and headed out of Walpole bound for Denmark. We stayed in Denmark on our round Australia trip in 1991 and our strongest memory is of the 7 degrees overnight. As it was close to the same time of year, we were expecting the same.

On the way from Walpole to Denmark we detoured to have a look at Peaceful Bay. We stopped but didn't linger as it was quite windy. It looked like a nice spot though. We continued on to Denmark and found a trailer parking spot near the shops (quite a rarity in  many places). We had a coffee and a walk around before setting off to find a caravan park. We settled on one at Ocean Beach. As luck would have it Ocean Beach is mentioned as a good place for birdwatching. Coincidence?

Elegant Parrots were foraging at the entrance to the caravan park!
After settling in, we went for a drive and stopped at Ocean Beach Lookout, Lions Lookout  and McGeary's Rock Lookout. Mick was pleased to be able to get some photos of surfers in action at a couple of the lookouts and we enjoyed the fabulous views. On the way back we stopped to walk along the tracks to the beach. Some areas are roped off as seabird nesting sites and Mick spent quite a bit of time lying on the sand taking photos.

The beautiful Wilson Inlet.

Being up so high was not a great angle for shooting surfers.

The next morning the sun was shining and the day was quite warm so I took the opportunity to get a load of washing done while Mick walked back down to the beach for some more bird photos. I walked down to join him later.

After morning tea we drove west again to visit Elephant Rocks and Greens Pool. This is a truly stunning spot and the fine, warm weather had brought out lots of people - some of whom were swimming. A number of intersecting tracks meander between the two spots which abound with photo opportunities.

Elephant Rocks - simply stunning - and hard not to take heaps of photos...

While in town later in the day we drove down towards the river mouth and went for a short walk. There are parklands and walking tracks all the way from town and it looks like a nice spot to spend some time. We visited again before we left Denmark for Albany.
