Khancoban

6 - 7 March 2015

The drive from Canberra through Cooma and into the "high country" is quite beautiful, but very tiring with lots of very steep and windy sections. It is not recommended for caravans, with good reason.

We fuelled up and had lunch in Cooma which is a very pretty little spot, then drove on along the Alpine Way towards Jindabyne. Once you enter the National Park you have to pay park fees, unless you are transiting through.

We were surprised to see that many of the trees are dead - probably affected by some sort of die back. Such a shame.

We stopped at one of the small number of campsites along the way for a stretch. It would have been a beautiful spot to camp - but would probably been very cold overnight. The only facilities are a "long drop" toilet.

Mountain stream.
A young robin, not sure what species.
Shouldered Brown butterfly.
We had hoped to go a little further, but were tired and hungry when we arrived at Khancoban so opted for a night at the pub. A decent meal and a warm bed and we were satisfied.
